Panel: The Future of Application Trustworthiness

Wednesday, 5 December 2012
10:30 - 12:00

Diamond

Chair: Peter Neumann, SRI International

This session will explore a variety of issues relating to system- and network-wide application trustworthiness, and how to combat risks.  Topics to be addressed might include to what extent can we make silk purses out of sows' ears; compositions of hardware, software, and networking in which trustworthiness of component parts may be unknown; how can we overcome dependence on untrustworthy servers, cloud elements, and users; possible roles for selective use of formal methods; appers (app wrappers); protection against insider misuse; when is the `good' good enough; and so on.  This is obviously an open-ended discussion, but it is very timely.

Panelists:

Nirav Dave, SRI International (Cambridge, MA)

  Rance DeLong, Santa Clara University

  Roger Schell, Aesec

  Olin Sibert, Oxford Systems
