Thursday, 6 December 2012
13:30 - 15:00

Diamond

Chair: David Wheeler, Institute for Defense Analyses

Software Assurance (SwA) has been defined as the “level of confidence that software is free from vulnerabilities, either intentionally designed into the software or accidentally inserted at any time during its lifecycle and that the software functions in the intended manner.”  There are many technologies that help SwA, but many gaps remain.  This panel will present and discuss gaps that require investigation and investment.  For example, there are many gaps in countering vulnerabilities that are intentionally inserted into software during its development.   The intent is to identify gaps and possible areas for future research, in particular so that government, academia, and industry can better understand what areas may need further investment.

Panelists:

Dr. David A. Wheeler, Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA)

Kris Britton, Director, Center for Assured Software, National Security Agency (NSA)

Jeremy Epstein, Program Officer, Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace Program, Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering, National Science Foundation (NSF)

Ian Bryant, Technical Director, UK Trustworthy Software Initiative (TSI)
